The lecture, organised by the Stephen Keshi Football and Vocational Training Center (SKFVTC), marks a decade since the passing of the former Super Eagles captain and coach on June 7, 2016.
During separate visits on April 15 and 17, 2026, the Secretary of SKFVTC, Comrade Austin Popo, met with the Director-General and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade and Alhaji Shehu Dikko.
Acting on behalf of SKFVTC Board Chairman, Dr. Louis Brown Ogbeifun, Popo secured assurances of federal backing for the event.
The NSC leadership described the initiative as a fitting tribute to an African football icon, noting that it aligns with the Federal Government’s sports development and youth empowerment agenda.
The lecture, endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), will take place at the main auditorium of the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
With the theme “Heroes of the Game:
Celebrating African Football Legends for Tomorrow’s Aspirants,” the lecture will examine the enduring impact of football legends like Keshi in inspiring younger generations and advancing the development of the sport.
According to organisers, the event aims to celebrate Keshi’s legacy and recognise his contributions to sportsmanship, youth empowerment, and national unity.

The programme is expected to attract high-profile personalities across sports, politics, academia, and business, including top officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the National Sports Commission, the NFF, and the Lagos State Government.
In addition to the lecture, special awards will be presented to individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to sports development and community impact, reflecting the values exemplified by Stephen Keshi throughout his life.
