FCT Male Football Team Thrashes Borno 4-1, Paul Joseph Bags Hat-Trick in National Sports Festival Opener

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) male football team kicked off their campaign at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF) in emphatic fashion, defeating Borno State 4-1 on Monday morning. The match was played at the training pitch of Remo Stars in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Star of the day, forward Paul Joseph, stole the spotlight as he netted a stunning first-half hat-trick—the first of the tournament—to give the 2018 champions a commanding lead.

Although Borno managed to pull one back early in the second half, Titus Meshach Waziri sealed the win for FCT in the 75th minute, making it 4-1 and leaving no doubt about the result.

Reacting to the victory, FCT assistant coach and former Super Falcons player, Mary Godspower Benny, expressed satisfaction with the team’s start.

“We stressed the importance of starting strong, and the players followed the game plan. While we could’ve scored more, it’s a good start. We’ll address our shortcomings before the next match on Tuesday,” she said.

Team captain Achu Gabriel praised his teammates for their effort and reiterated the team’s focus on reclaiming the trophy last won in 2018.

FCT’s next group game is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:00 am, where they will face the host state, Ogun.
