Nigeria’s sprint sensation Favour Ashe continued his upward trajectory in the 2024 athletics season, delivering another impressive performance at the International Meeting Anhalt in Dessau, Germany.
The 21-year-old clocked a Season’s Best (SB) of 10.08s (+0.3) to finish 3rd in the men’s 100m Final A, improving on his heat time of 10.11s.
Ashe, who had comfortably won his heat earlier in the day, showed commendable consistency and drive against a stacked field that produced some of the meet’s fastest times.
Canada’s Jerome Blake stormed to victory with a blistering 9.97s, setting a new Meet Record in the process, while South Africa’s Tsebo Matsoso recorded a lifetime best of 10.03s to finish second.
Another Nigerian sprinter, Folawiyo Olaoye, also made headlines with a Personal Best (PB) of 10.21s, placing 6th in the highly competitive race.
Ashe’s form will be encouraging for Team Nigeria ahead of major championships, with the sprinter showing steady progression in his build-up to the Olympics and other key international meets.
