Highly promising home-based sprinter, Favour Ashe has disclosed that he and all other Nigerian athletes heading to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland are fully focused on the task ahead and determined to give their best during their events, Sports247 reports.
Further assurances of gold medals also came from Ashe, who made another top mark early this week by winning the BFTTA Open with a time of 10.5 seconds at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London, from where he will join Team Nigeria’s camp in Glasgow.

With the crux of Nigeria’s contingent set to storm Glasgow on Tuesday from their pre-competition training camp in Aberdeen, Ashe affirmed that they all learnt well during their three weeks stay at the ultra-modern sports village and enthused that they will excel at Glasgow 2026.
He acknowledged further that National Sports Commission (NSC) has given the athletes a charge of winning at least 16 gold medals and assured that the team will give it the best of their efforts, while also expressing confidence in their abikity to enact strong performances in Glasgow.
The 100m specialist from Delta State noted that the athletes have been treated well and motivated adequately by the NSC and the respective federations, hence their determination to make the country proud, once events begin after the opening ceremony on Thursday.
“We have prepared well and everyone is focused on giving their best. Team Nigeria has a strong tradition at the Commonwealth Games, and we are confident we can compete for medals and make Nigerians proud,” said Ashe, who is one of the country’s most promising athletes at Glasgow 2026.
Sports247 gathered further that the Games’ opening ceremony will take placd at The Hydro in Glasgow, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla will join thousands of athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators from across the former British Empire to formally launch the 23rd Commonwealth Games.
The Commonwealth Games High Commssion (CGHC) has already revealed startling figures that show a total of 3,000 athletes representing 74 nations and territories set to take part in Glasgow 2026, where they will compete for 215 gold medals across 10 sports events in 11 days of intense contests.
