Nigerian sprint star Favour Ashe has applauded the quality of Team Nigeria’s training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, describing the facilities and overall environment as a major boost ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The African sprint sensation said the preparations organised by the National Sports Commission (NSC) have placed the athletes in the best possible position to compete for medals, noting that the camp has strengthened the team both physically and mentally.
Ashe is among Nigeria’s leading medal hopefuls in athletics after establishing himself as one of the country’s fastest men in recent years, representing Nigeria at major international competitions, including the World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, and African Championships.
“The facilities here are world-class, and everything has been put in place for us to prepare properly. Mentally and physically, we’re in a very good place ahead of the Games,” Ashe said.
The 23-year-old credited the quality of the training environment for helping athletes focus entirely on performance, adding that the atmosphere within the camp has created confidence across Team Nigeria.
Ashe also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the country’s athletes as they prepare to compete against some of the Commonwealth’s best.
“We appreciate the support from Nigerians and ask them to keep believing in us. We’ll give everything we have to make the country proud in Glasgow,” he added.
Team Nigeria has been undergoing an intensive high-performance training programme in Aberdeen as part of its final preparations before travelling to Glasgow, where athletes will compete across several disciplines.
With the Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Ashe will be aiming to build on his recent performances as he joins Team Nigeria’s athletics contingent in pursuit of podium finishes on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
