Fasasi Goal Sends Rocky Stars To Win Jide Oni Cup in Lagos

Yisa Fasasi goal in the 10th minute was Rocky Stars Academy of Isolo needed to win the final of the maiden edition U-16 Otunba Jide Oni Eko Youth football competition in Lagos State.

Rocky Stars defeated their counterpart, Puma Academy of Lagos Island 1-0 in the final played on Sunday at the FIFA legacy pitch of the national stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Both teams really gave a good account of themselves but it was Rocky Stars that stole the show at the end of the encounter.

Speaking after the encounter Rocky Stars coach, Samson Ogunsanya expressed joy that his team won the maiden edition of the tournament. He described the victory well deserved and revealed that he prepared hard for the tournament before its commencement.

“The victory did not come just like that. I prepared the team for the tournament by playing a series of friendly matches which paved way for us in the Jide One Cup. I congratulate my players, fans, and entire coaching crew led by my humble self for this hard-fought victory and I promise to defend the title in the next edition,” he said.

Ogunsanya popularly known as Sir Rocky said what really worked for the team are hardworking, prayers, discipline, and dedication of the players in all the matches.

He confessed that there is no secret to the success but insisted that hardworking and discipline on the part of players helped them to win the tournament.

Speaking about his performance, Fasasi who scored the winning goal for Rocky Stars told sports 247. ng that he was happy to have scored the only goal in the final boasting that his performance was quite impressive.

“I played all the matches en route to the final and I am happy with the level of my performance. I played well in the final and I got the goal that gave us the victory,” he said.

The cup donor, Otunba Jide Oni disclosed that the tourney had recorded huge success and commended the organizers for the job well done.

“Honestly I must commend the organizers for the job well done. What I saw today showed that we have young talented players who can represent this country in future international and continental football competitions. Secondly, I congratulate the finalists for reaching this stage particularly Rocky Stars for winning the inaugural edition. I am happy that I have also contributed my own quota to the football development in the state,” he said.

Match coordinator, Taofeek Ajibola thanked God for the success of the competition saying that all the participating teams played according to the rules and regulations.
