Sports247 reports that Osimhen refused to celebrate what turned out to be his club’s last goal in their 4-2 away win, as he showed respect to the club that he played only one season for from 2019 to 2020.
During his short stay in France, Osimhen netted 18 goals across all competitions for Lille, which he joined from Sporting Charleroi of Belgium, then got a breakthrough deal at SSC Napoli of Italy, from where he joined Galatasaray in 2024.
The 2023 African Footballer of The Year, who also previously played for Ultimate Strikers FC of Lagos and VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, was on Wednesday back in Lille with his current team, for which he netted his first UCL goal of this season.
However, rather than celebrate his sizzling effort, the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup top scorer opted to be sober and even apologised to the home fans, then later same night sent a good luck message to them on social media.
He acknowledged that his 61st minute goal helped Gala get a crucial away win, but quickly praised Lille’s players for putting up a stiff challenge and hailed their supporters for retaining a wonderful aura in the stadium, despite their team’s slump at home.
“I love this stadium. The fans are incredible. I’m happy we got the three points. It was a tough match to win. Lille players are very tough. They even took the lead.
“We managed to win the match together as a team. We had a tough match. I’m very happy for our team; we won. I also wish Lille good luck in their next matches,” Osimhen posted.
