Nigeria Football Federation Executive Board member Aisha Falode has praised the impressive standard of play in the 2025 President Federation Cup Women’s final, describing it as a testament to the growth of the women’s game in the country.
The former Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) was full of praise following a pulsating encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, where Rivers Angels completed a dramatic comeback to defeat Nasarawa Amazons via a penalty shootout.

Falode, who has been a consistent voice championing the development of women’s football in Nigeria, said the final showcased not only elite-level talent but also the resilience and passion that define the women’s game.
> “I was very excited to see the high level of play and passion exhibited at the final… Nasarawa Amazons, you were gallant and fought with incredible heart. And to Rivers Angels, congratulations on your victory. You showed the resilience of champions,” she said.
The final lived up to its billing as Rivers Angels, one of Nigeria’s most successful women’s clubs, clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit to force a draw, before eventually winning on penalties.
Falode emphasized that the thrilling finale was more than a game — it was a symbolic milestone.
> “This year’s final was not just about crowning a champion. It was a celebration of how far the women’s game has come. From grassroots participation to professional structure and now nationwide recognition — Nigerian women’s football is on a steady rise,” she added.
The 2025 edition of the Federation Cup has been widely hailed for its organization, visibility, and competitiveness — with the women’s final, in particular, sparking conversations around increased investment and support for female athletes in the country.
As the dust settles on a gripping final, stakeholders like Falode continue to call for more opportunities, sponsorship, and policy backing to maintain the momentum and empower the next generation of women footballers in Nigeria.
