Falcons Focused On Reaching AWCON 2018 Final – Mmadu

Female national team, Super Falcons assistant coach, Maureen Mmadu has declared that the coaches and players of the Nigerian squad are fully focused on reaching the final of this year’s Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Although Mmadu admitted that Tuesday’s semi-final against Cam,eroon will be a tough battle, sports247.ng gathered that the ex-international is thinking only of victory at Accra Sports Stadium.

Mmadu recalled that the Falcons have been a stumbling block to the Lionesses’ quest to win their first African title and says they are not bound to let off this year.

Having beaten the same team on their home soil in the 2016 final in Yaounde, Mmadu is of a view that the Falcons will again carry the day on Tuesday, especially as she says all the players are determined to reach another final and win the AWCON 2018 title.

It will be a record extending ninth title for the Nigerian ladies, but Mmadu said they are not ready to rest on their oars, especially after hitting top form in their last group match against Equatorial Guinea.

In Saturday’s game, the Falcons beat the two-time champions 6-0, and Mmadu said it was a huge confidence booster and showed the strong desire to make history once again.

Mmadu enthused: “Against Cameroon it is always tough, but our girls are more than determined, they have improved with every game.

“Of course, the game against Cameroon will not be our last as we are focused on playing in the final and make the country proud.

“We came with a mindset of winning and that is what we did in a big way. Equatorial Guinea lost heavily to the other teams in the group, so we made sure that we collected our share of the goals bonanza.”
