Everything You Need To Know About Super Falcons Last Match In Morocco, As Africa Prepare For A New Champions In Ten Years

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will play their counterparts from Zambia in the third place match of the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Both sides lost their semi-final fixtures on Monday with Zambia losing 1-0 to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa thanks to a late penalty goal, who are now favourites to win the tournament now based on what is on paper.

While Defending champions and tournament record holder, Super Falcons were defeated 5-4 in penalty shootouts by the hosts, Morocco after both the regulation and extra time ended in a one-all draw at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.

Super Falcons will be without some key members of the team for the bronze medal match including Halimatu Ayinde and star striker Rasheedat Ajibade, both of who were shown red cards in the 48th and 70th minute respectively of the semi-match lost on Monday.

The match will be played at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca on Friday, 22 July 2022, with Zambia coach, Bruce Mwape stating his players are ready for the third-place match.

Meanwhile, new continental champions will be crowned in the final of the biennial football showpiece for the first time since 2012 when Equatorial Guinea last won it, with Nigeria clinching the last three editions.

Five times finalists South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will slug it out against first-time finalists, Morocco’s Lionesses of Atlas in the final on Saturday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.

Neither of the two teams has won the tournament before but the Moroccan side will be with the full support of their fans, who are going to troop out in their thousands for the match.
