The accomplished long jumper, who boasts three medals from both indoor and outdoor World Athletics Championships, is aiming to follow in the footsteps of her compatriot and fellow athlete, Tobi Amusan, as she vies for a coveted spot in the Diamond League final.

Brume’s pursuit of Diamond League glory has led her to the Xiamen, China meeting, scheduled for this Saturday, September 2, 2023.

According to her coach, Kayode Yahaya, who was a part of Team Nigeria at the 19th World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Brume has touched down in China, ready to make her mark on the event.

Having narrowly missed out on clinching a podium finish in the long jump at the recent Budapest championships, where she secured fourth place, Brume is now keen on securing her place in the Diamond League final.

Currently holding the seventh spot in the long jump standings with 10 points, she sits just outside the top six positions required to compete in Oregon, USA. To solidify her place, she needs to outperform the chasing duo of Quanesha Burks (USA) and Jazmin Sawyers (Great Britain), both with nine points.

Ese Brume, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion and record holder from Delta State, has her sights set on redeeming last year’s near-miss when she narrowly missed out on a spot in the Zurich final. With determination in her heart, she recognizes that her destiny is in her own hands as she strives to conclude the year on a triumphant note.

Brume’s appearances in the Diamond League this year have been limited, with three outings to her name. Notably, she secured fifth place in Florence, Italy in June, followed by a fourth-place finish in Stockholm, Sweden.

Her standout moment came when she emerged victorious at the Herculis event in Monaco, France, in July.

As she embarks on her quest in China, Brume aims to etch her name in history as the second Nigerian athlete to claim a Diamond League trophy and the first field event participant to qualify for the final and emerge victorious.

All eyes are on her as she takes center stage in Xiamen, ready to leap towards her aspirations.
