Former Super Eagles midfielder Paul Okoku has thrown his full support behind Eric Chelle, insisting the Franco-Malian has already shown he is the right man to lead Nigeria’s senior national team.
Okoku joined a growing list of former internationals backing the Super Eagles coach after reports emerged that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to extend Chelle’s stay following his encouraging start in charge of the three-time African champions.
The former Nigeria international believes one of Chelle’s biggest strengths is the clarity of his tactical approach, noting that the coach has quickly implemented a recognisable style of play since taking over the team.
“I’m delighted to see Eric Chelle continue as Super Eagles coach. He’s very intentional with his tactics and the way he wants the team to play,” Okoku said.
The former midfielder also praised Chelle’s attention to detail, arguing that the coach has brought greater organisation and discipline to the Super Eagles while giving players a clearer understanding of their roles on the pitch.
According to Okoku, continuity will be crucial if Nigeria is to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level.
“You can already see his philosophy and structure. The players understand what he wants, and I believe he’s the right person to take the Super Eagles forward,” he added.
Since his appointment, Chelle has received widespread praise from players, former internationals and football stakeholders for restoring confidence within the squad and introducing a more structured approach to the team’s performances.
The Super Eagles are expected to continue preparations for their upcoming international fixtures, with Chelle set to build on his early progress as Nigeria targets success in future continental and World Cup qualifying campaigns.
