Addressing members of the press, Commissioner Ikechukwu emphasized that Enugu is ready to welcome young athletes and media professionals from across Nigeria.
He highlighted key facilities such as a fully equipped Games Village, a modern media center within the stadium, and an efficient transportation system to support smooth logistics.
He further disclosed ongoing partnerships with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to ensure comprehensive media coverage and effective stakeholder collaboration.
“We’re fully prepared to host the youth of Nigeria. The opening ceremony will be nothing short of spectacular—we intend to raise the bar, even surpassing what Ogun State achieved,” he declared.
The Commissioner also promoted Enugu’s cultural and tourism assets, inviting visitors to explore the state’s scenic waterfalls, tranquil landscapes, and rich historical heritage. “Enugu is a destination of peace and beauty.
Our history and natural sites offer visitors more than just sports,” he said.
On the matter of security, Ikechukwu assured the public that Enugu is currently one of the safest states in the country. He cited the discontinuation of MASSOB activities and the end of the “sit-at-home” order as major milestones in restoring peace.
“Security concerns are behind us. Enugu has moved on,” he affirmed.
As evidence of the state’s stability, he pointed to the recent successful hosting of an international marathon, which drew participation from foreign athletes.
With firm assurances and visible preparations, Enugu appears poised to establish itself as a new center for youth engagement, tourism, and sporting excellence in Nigeria.
