After a narrow 0-1 defeat to Remo Stars Ladies in their opening match and a 1-1 draw with Rivers Angels in their second outing, Edo Queens entered the Naija Ratels clash under pressure. However, Essien’s clinical display changed the narrative, with her first goal coming in the 26th minute and her second in the 37th, just before halftime.
Initially counted out by some fans in Ikenne following the team’s early struggles, Edo Queens have now reignited their campaign.
With renewed tactical discipline and boosted confidence, the Benin-based side is gearing up for decisive fixtures against Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons, scheduled for Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16, respectively.
In other matches, Nasarawa Amazons edged Rivers Angels 2-1, while Remo Stars Ladies continued their campaign.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Enabulele Desmond, lauded the team’s victory over Naija Ratels and urged the players to maintain their momentum. He emphasized that wins in their final two matches could see Edo Queens reclaim the title back-to-back. He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting the team with more incentives.
