Team Nigeria’s prospects of winning gold in the 4x400m mixed relay at the 2026 Commonwealth Games have received a significant lift following the arrival of quarter-mile sensation Ella Onojuvwevwo in Glasgow, Scotland, ahead of the start of the athletics programme on Monday.
Onojuvwevwo, one of Nigeria’s brightest medal hopefuls, linked up with the athletics team on Sunday and was warmly received by teammates and officials.

Her arrival has injected fresh optimism into the camp, particularly as Nigeria prepares to challenge for honours in the mixed relay event, where the country is expected to be among the strongest contenders.
The 21-year-old enters the Games in outstanding form, having posted a season’s best of 49.47 seconds in the women’s 400m.
Ranked 18th in the world, Onojuvwevwo’s speed and experience make her a vital asset to Nigeria’s relay ambitions while also positioning her as a strong contender in the individual 400m event.
Also arriving in Glasgow is high jump star Temitope Adeshina, further strengthening Team Nigeria’s athletics squad ahead of competition.
Adeshina, a three-time Nigerian champion, is currently ranked 13th in the world and holds the national high jump record.
She heads into the Games with a season’s best clearance of 1.97m and is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s top medal prospects in the field events.
The arrival of both athletes completes Team Nigeria’s preparations as the athletics competition begins on Monday, July 27, at Scotstoun Stadium.
With Onojuvwevwo spearheading the country’s 4x400m mixed relay challenge and Adeshina aiming for high jump glory, expectations are high that Nigeria can add more medals to its growing tally in Glasgow.
