Beyond the pursuit of the national title, the tournament also serves as a talent scouting platform for the 2026 Amputee World Cup scheduled to take place in Liberia, Costa Rica, from July 31 to August 9, 2026.
President of the Nigeria Amputee Federation (NAF), Chief Paul Maduakor, lauded the teams for their commitment and resilience, describing their participation as a testament to the sport’s rapid growth and enduring spirit.
“I’m proud of the teams for their sacrifices and passion. This championship provides a vital platform for players to compete, improve, and showcase their talent,” Maduakor said.
Also speaking, Secretary-General Nonye Nwose highlighted the strategic importance of hosting the event in the nation’s capital, emphasizing that it would help draw national attention to amputee football and strengthen institutional support for inclusion in sports.
“This event gives players the opportunity to refine their skills while putting the sport in the national spotlight,” Nwose noted.
In the same vein, Technical Director Victor Nwenwe explained that the championship will be used to assess player performance and identify top talents for possible selection to the national team ahead of global engagements.
Organized under the auspices of the Nigeria Amputee Federation, the 2025 championship underscores the growing momentum behind adaptive sports in Nigeria — blending competition, empowerment, and national pride.
