At 36, the experienced speedster stormed to a commanding victory in his 100m heat, clocking a wind-aided 10.18s (+2.6), finishing ahead of Adrian Canales (10.25s) and Elijah Morrow (10.34s). Egwero, a three-time African Championships medallist and London 2012 Olympian, showed his enduring class and competitive edge.
In the finals, the Delta-born sprinter went even faster, posting 10.11s (+2.5) to finish 4th in his heat. That time placed him 11th fastest overall across all the heats—a remarkable feat in a field stacked with younger athletes.
Egwero’s consistency and longevity continue to inspire as he remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring track athletes on the global scene. His performance in Texas is a statement of intent that he is still very much in the mix and capable of challenging elite sprinters, nearly two decades after he first made his mark on the athletics scene.
With the 2025 World Athletics Championships and Olympic trials drawing closer, Egwero’s form will certainly be one to watch.
