Efe Ambrose Targets Eagles’ Build-up Matches

Derby County of England new arrival, Efe Ambrose has admitted he is desirous of making a return to the Super Eagles, as he believes his days in Nigeria’s national team are not over and want to prove it with time in the side’s upcoming pre-Africa Cup of Nations build-up matches.

Ambrose told sports247.ng in an exclusive chat that he does not like being called a former Eagles’ player, as he believes his days are not over in the squad, and wants opportunities to prove his mettle once more.

The former Kaduna United, SC Ashdod of Israel as well as ex-Celtic and Hibernian of Scotland defender pointed out that he has recently signed for a club in England, while many others are leaving the same country.
He also cited the fact that, aside goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, he is the only set of Nigeria’s Canada 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup players that is still active in top-flight football.

Ambrose is of a view that Nigeria will find his experience useful at the Afirca Cup of Nations in Egypt, having also been part of the squad that won the title in 2013, which he believes should boost his credentials.
“I am not former Super Eagles’ player,” Ambrose stated with affirmation.
“I am still relevant for the team and I believe I will go with them to this year’s Nations Cup in Egypt.
“All I want is for the coach to give me the chance to prove myself. Let them invite me for the pre-Nations Cup friendlies, so that I can show what I have to offer, in terms of experience and strength.
“The present squad, as it is, needs some experienced players to help the young ones in the team. I believe that’s something I can bring to the side before and during the Nations Cup in Egypt.”
