The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has lauded the ongoing Ardova PLC Handball Premier League as a testament to Edo State’s rising profile as a hub for national sports development.
Hon. Enabulele made this known during his visit to the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Wednesday, where he watched a thrilling match between defending champions FRSC and SOOF (Omo-Ogiefo). The event marked the latest in a series of major sporting tournaments hosted by the state in recent weeks.

Speaking through his media officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, the sports chief welcomed players from across the country and praised the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) for its role in elevating the sport at national level.
“For the past few weeks, Edo State has hosted significant competitions — from the EKUS Judo Championship to now the Ardova PLC Handball Premier League,” Enabulele said. “These events underscore Governor Monday Okpebholo’s clear vision for sports as a vehicle for youth empowerment and community development.”
He further emphasized the importance of grassroots sports in discovering emerging talents and promoting values such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
“As a Commission, we remain dedicated to supporting sports at all levels,” Enabulele added. “We will continue to provide platforms that enable our youth to thrive, both on and off the field.”
The ongoing handball league has drawn widespread attention, reinforcing Benin City’s reputation as a vibrant and strategic host for top-tier sporting events in Nigeria.
