Edo Queens’ Women’s Champions League Qualification Excites NFF’s Acting Scribe Emmanuel Ikpeme

The acting general-secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme has revealed how excited he was seeing Edo Queens of Benin City pull off a crucial victory on Saturday to qualify for this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League.

Sports247 reports that Ikpeme noted how the club from Edo State defeated a team that earlier beat them during the group stage, as they battled back to pick the zone’s lone qualification slot.

He then congratulated Coach Kennedy Boboye’s side for emerging winners of the West African Footvall Union (WAFU)-B qualification competition that took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and expressed confidence in their future efforts.

His commendation came after Edo Queens not only picked a continental ticket but also reclaimed the WAFU-B trophy that they previously won in 2024, by defeating Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana 4-1 on penalties, after they both fought to a 2-2 draw in the pulsating final at Stade 4 August.

Ikpeme disclosed, “The NFF is very proud of the achievement of Edo Queens. It is no mean feat, as they had to do battles with equally-ambitious and focused teams.

“It is even more remarkable that the team they defeated in the final was the only team to have beaten them during the group phase of the tournament.”
