Ebah’s Stoppage-Time Strike Hands Plateau United Vital Win, Deepens Remo Stars’ Relegation Fears

The result eased relegation pressure on the Jos-based side while compounding the struggles of Remo Stars, who slipped deeper into the danger zone after another costly defeat.

Playing their “home” fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin due to the ban on their Ikenne ground and the unavailability of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Remo Stars endured a difficult outing that took a turn for the worse early on.

Maduabuchi Fabian was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession in the 14th and 16th minutes, leaving the Sky Blue Stars to play the majority of the match with 10 men.

Plateau United capitalised on the numerical advantage in the 28th minute when Jonathan Okechukwu curled in a well-struck free kick to give the visitors the lead.

Remo Stars pushed for a response before half-time, but goalkeeper John Amah produced a fine save to preserve Plateau United’s advantage at the break.

Despite being a man down, Remo Stars showed character after the restart and drew level in the 62nd minute. Liberian winger Albert Korvah marked his first goal for the club with a composed finish, reigniting hope for the home side.

As both teams pressed for a winner in the closing stages, it was Plateau United who delivered the decisive blow. In the 91st minute, defender Harrison Ebah unleashed a long-range effort that found the back of the net, sealing a crucial victory for the Peace Boys and silencing the Remo Stars camp.

The defeat leaves Remo Stars 18th on the table with 26 points after their 14th loss of the season, firmly entrenched in the relegation battle. Plateau United, meanwhile, climbed to 14th place with 30 points, moving three clear of the drop zone.

In other matchday 24 fixtures, Kwara United strengthened their survival bid with a 2-1 win over Warri Wolves, inspired by a brace from Olaniyi Saheed. Barau FC also claimed a 1-0 home victory over Ikorodu City courtesy of a 29th-minute strike from Uche Moses, lifting the newly promoted side to 13th with 30 points, while Ikorodu City remain fourth on 38 points.
