A new assistant coach has joined Nigeria’s female basketball national team, D’Tigress, at their training base in United State of America, ahead of the official draw for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup on Tuesday, Sports247 reports.
The draw for this year’s global championship will hold in Berlin, Germany, where D’Tigress will this summer aim to enact another historic performance, similar to what they previously achieved at the Olympic Games and AfroBasket.

The new coach joining Rena Wakama’s technical crew is Stanley Boateng, who arrives with expectations of adding his expertise in the team’s build-up games against Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx and Indiana Fever.
Aside from adding his technical acumen to prosecute impending friendlies during the team’s training tour, Boateng’s presence is also expected to bring fresh perspectives in player development to the squad.
His inclusion is also a major boost for Wakama, who is on record as the first female head coach of D’Tigress and first African basketball tactician (man or woman) to lead a team to the Olympics’ quarter-finals.
Following confirmation of his inclusion in D’Tigress’ expanded technical team, Boateng said he was excited with the role and declared, “Wearing Nigeria across my chest is bigger than anything that I have ever experienced before.”
