Draw for 2023/24 NPFL Season To Unveil Fixtures As Football Icons Gather For AGM

The eagerly anticipated draw for the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is set to take place today, Tuesday, August 29, following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) convened by the Board and attended by all 20 clubs.

This significant event marks the inaugural AGM under the leadership of Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, the newly appointed Chairman of the NPL Board.

Having effectively steered the Interim Management Committee (IMC) and implemented sweeping reforms in the domestic top league, Elegbeleye embarks on his first AGM with a clear vision to transform the league into a commercially attractive entity.

His goal is to augment revenue streams for clubs, enabling them to assemble competitive squads and enhance infrastructure.

Elegbeleye expressed his anticipation for a productive AGM, emphasizing the importance of sharing the league’s vision and strategy to elevate its commercial appeal.

The NPFL’s recent venture into live broadcast streaming of matches has set a promising precedent, hinting at the league’s commitment to embracing new avenues of engagement and revenue generation.

Following the AGM proceedings, the highly anticipated draw for the forthcoming season’s fixtures is scheduled for 5 p.m. Esteemed football icons are expected to grace the event, which will be hosted at the prestigious Hotel Sandralia in Jabi, Abuja.

Preparations for the upcoming season are already in full swing, with all 20 clubs arriving in Abuja on Monday, August 28.

The clubs have demonstrated their readiness for the challenges ahead, having actively participated in numerous pre-season tournaments and friendly matches.

Club Owners Association Secretary, Godwin Enakhena, affirmed their proactive approach, stating, “You must have noticed that we have been participating in a number of pre-season tournaments and friendly games to prime our squad for the new season.”
