The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, who described the appointment as a strategic step to build a sustainable framework for the growth of Netball in the country.

“Netball is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, and Nigeria has a wealth of top professional athletes in the diaspora excelling in the sport at the highest level,” Olopade said. “With over thirty Nigerians currently playing in top Netball leagues across Europe and South Africa, we have the potential to field a formidable team that can strengthen our podium prospects.”

Olopade highlighted that the move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader mandate to create a sustainable sports economy in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for a well-organized system that allows athletes, whether at home or abroad, to proudly represent the nation.

Dr. Aluko, a former Netball player and current President of the Association of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria (AFFAN), brings over 45 years of experience as an athlete, coach, and sports administrator.

Her deep understanding of the game, combined with her leadership experience, positions her to drive the sport’s development at both grassroots and elite levels.

“She knows the sport inside out and is the right person to lead the federation at this critical time,” Olopade added, promising that the full board of the NNF will be announced in the coming days.

The appointment signals a renewed focus on structured development for Netball in Nigeria, with the potential to harness domestic talent and tap into the Nigerian diaspora to build a competitive national team capable of excelling on the continental and global stage.

This strategic move is expected to enhance Nigeria’s presence in international Netball competitions and strengthen the country’s overall sports ecosystem.
