Don’t pick players based on fitness alone: Edema Fuludu advises Rohr

1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner and vice chairman of the Delta State Football Association Edema Fuludu has advised national team handler Gernot Rohr to give room for other players to be seen before the nation’s cup next year.

The former Eagles midfielder has also called on the coach to look inward during his selection and pick some players from the home league for the championship. “Rohr has definitely been doing well and I rate him highly but what I will like for him to add to the team is the inclusion of home based stars that are really good. I know we have them here. They don’t have to travel to play abroad before we start looking for them.

During our playing days in the Eagles most of us played at home here and the then coach will always move around to select players and that was how some of us got the opportunity to play for our fatherland. These NPFL players need to see that hope that one day they can play for the national team that will even make them work harder.”

Edema Fuludu told Sports247.ng that he believes that players should be choosing not based on fitness alone, but tactics and game intelligence should be the yardstick in selecting his players going for the nation’s cup. “Honestly fitness of players should not be the main reason why a players should be invited, other parameters must be looked at as well to get an all round team.”
