Dolphins women’s basketball team’s coach, Okechukwu Ottah has stated satisfaction with their performances so far in the ongoing league, despite suffering three straight defeats at the Port Harcourt zone.
Sports247 reports that the defending champions fell again in phase two of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, as they lost 73-54 to their fellow-Lagos-based-rivals, Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM).
While reflecting on the defeat, Ottah picked positives from what he referred to as improved defending by his players, though they trailed 18-13 from the opening quarter and MFM extended their lead in the second period.
MFM romped to 24-13, then took a 42-26 lead into halftime and up to 58-34 heading into the final quarter, during which the champions gave their best display of the game to win it 20-15, but that was not enough, as they eventually lost 73-54.
However, despite the defeat, Ottah (aka Kenzy) said he remains confident of better results ahead of his squad, as they improved defensively and are beginning to rediscover the form that saw them emerge as champions last season.
Ottah pointed out, “We are trying to regroup ourselves again. We lost the game but, for me, this game was okay because we were able to cut down those points and contain them.
“We played good defence. The defence was tight, and I’m okay with the team’s progress so far. Each and every time we step on the court, we need to keep fighting. That’s what makes you a champion.
“You can never become a champion in one day; you become a champion when you put in the same effort, even more effort, game by game. I believe we have now become a team to contend with.”
