Divine Onyemachi Earns Flying Eagles Call-Up Days After Signing for Lecce

Barely 72 hours after sealing his first professional contract with Italian Serie A side Lecce from West Bromwich Albion’s youth team, teenage forward Divine Onyemachi has received his maiden invitation to the Nigeria U-20 national team.

The 18-year-old attacker, who impressed with 11 goals in 21 matches for West Brom’s U18s last season, is among the new faces called up by Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu as preparations begin for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Reacting to the news, Onyemachi described the call-up as “a great honour,” expressing excitement at the chance to represent his fatherland and promising to showcase his talent. He noted that his biggest ambition is to make Nigeria’s squad for the World Cup, which runs from September 27 to October 19, 2025.

The Flying Eagles are drawn in Group F of the tournament alongside Colombia, Saudi Arabia and Norway.
