Some fans and stakeholders have questioned the calibre of opposition, but Lawal insists such views are outdated in modern football.

“There are no easy teams anymore,” Lawal said. “Football has evolved, and every country now has structure, tactics, and quality players.”

According to him, the Super Eagles should approach every fixture with seriousness regardless of the opponent’s global ranking.

“If you underestimate any team today, you will be punished,” he stressed.

Lawal also highlighted logistical and administrative challenges that often limit the federation’s options when arranging friendlies.

“It is not just about picking any big nation. Scheduling, availability, travel logistics, and financial commitments all play a role,” he explained.

He pointed out that many top European and South American nations finalize their friendly schedules far in advance, leaving limited room for late arrangements.

“Other countries are already booked months ahead. So sometimes you work with who is available,” he added.

Lawal further argued that matches against Jordan and Iran could provide useful tactical exposure.

“Different playing styles help the team prepare better. You learn new things from every game,” he noted.

The former winger urged supporters to focus on the broader objective of team development rather than the names of opponents.

“What matters is preparation, cohesion, and performance. If we use these games well, they will benefit us,” he concluded.

With the Super Eagles preparing for crucial upcoming competitions, Lawal believes the friendlies offer an opportunity to build rhythm and test new combinations in the squad.
