Lagos-based boxer, Alamu Oladiran (aka Destiny Omo Ologo) has sent out a passionate appeal for corporate support in his burning desire to revive his annual talent hunt championship, which has been on hold for four years.
He disclosed this while speaking during Athlete’s Corner on Sports247’s weekly television programme, Inside Naija Sports, which airs on NTA News24 every Saturday at 10am and continuously streams through the weekend via YouTube.
Oladiran added during the interview that his passion for boxing started when he was 2
12 years old, hence his desire to encourage young talents in the same way.
“Boxing is what I love, and I have a passion for it. I had an interest in boxing right from the time I was 12 years old, and I went to Fagba Grammar School.
“I saw some people training there, and I said I wanted to join them. They said, ‘You this small boy;’ and I told them I would try my best. That’s how I gave it a try, and I loved it.
“I thought about it when I got home, and I told myself that I must put more effort into it because I want to be a world champion. That’s how I started training, but my daddy did not like it.
“He said it was like I wanted to become a tout. He wanted to discourage me, but I insisted that I like boxing. He threatened not to feed me again, but I continued, and I soon became a professional boxer.”
Oladiran then revealed how his passion for the pugilist’s sport spurred him into organising fights in his neighbourhood and thanked people who supported him for seven years until lack of funds cut short the project in 2022.
“I started grooming talents with an annual competition that I used my own money to stage. It was called Anularigba Boxing Production, and I did it for seven years.
“It was because of my passion for boxing and my desire to see young boys do it like me. That’s why I gathered some money and got the materials together – a boxing ring, gloves, and money to package for the winners.
“I am naturally a hustler and that helped me gather money to stage my first show. I’m on record as the first person to bring a boxing ring to Ifako Ijaye local government.
“I had a godfather who supported me. His name is Sulaiman Kokoro. A good friend called ‘K-Body’ also supported me; but I had to stop it for the past four years.
“That’s because I don’t have connections to get a company that will help me sponsor the championship. However, if I get financial support today, I will review the boxing competition tomorrow,” Oladirsn assured.
