Nigeria international defender Dennis Nya has officially parted ways with Zesco United, sparking immediate interest across top African leagues ahead of the 2025/26 football season.
After a stellar campaign in the Zambian Super League, the 28-year-old centre-back departs the Ndola-based giants as a free agent following failed contract extension talks.
Nya, who was voted Zesco United’s Most Consistent Player and Fans’ Player of the Year for the 2024/25 season, played a pivotal role in the club’s second-place league finish and ABSA Cup triumph.
His departure has now opened up a bidding war, with multiple clubs in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) closely monitoring the situation.
Sources close to the player confirm that while a return to Nigeria’s Premier Football League (NPFL) is possible, it’s not the most likely outcome at this stage.
Zesco United, meanwhile, is reportedly eyeing Shooting Stars’ Ayodeji Bamidele as a potential replacement.
Nya’s solid reputation stems not only from his recent form in Zambia but also from his extensive experience in Nigerian football.
He played for Lobi Stars and was instrumental in Akwa United’s 2021 NPFL title-winning campaign, where he became known for scoring crucial goals in high-stakes matches.
His journey began over a decade ago at Canaan United in Calabar, under the tutelage of the late Super Eagles legend John Okon Ene. He also featured at the 2012 National Sports Festival, winning silver for Cross River State.
Currently training in Uyo with other professionals during the off-season, Nya is staying in peak condition while assessing his next career move. With his defensive prowess, leadership qualities, and experience in continental competitions, Dennis Nya has become one of the most sought-after Nigerian defenders on the African transfer market.
