Dennerby admits being under pressure ahead of AWCON 2019

Coach of Nigeria’s senior women football national team, Thomas Dennerby has admitted being under pressure to ensure his Super Falcons team not only qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France but also go ahead to successfully defend the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) title won two years ago in Cameroon.

Dennerby speaking in a chat with sports247.ng said that the pressure for him however is one he is used to with his previous experience with Sweden.

“When I was the coach of Sweden such emanated and everyone was fine. We were well respected by our opponents, out style earned us more admirers and above all we showed quality in big games.”

“I must confess that there is pressure to qualify for the 2019 World Cup and also defend the AWCON title,” Dennerby admitted in an interview with Sports247.ng.

“Football is an adventure full of excitement and pressure. My players are well in line with what is expected from them. We have two targets at the AWCON tournament in Ghana; to win the Cup and qualify for the World Cup.”

The coach promised to deliver just as the same way he ensured Sweden became a force to be reckoned with while he was at the helms as coach.

“I promise to deliver as the coach of Nigeria. It was the same job I faced in Sweden.”

“The Super Falcons team is already a force in African football. The template we have on ground is to take it further and put the team’s name on the World map,” he added.
