Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, gave the assurance shortly after he was inaugurated as head of the Delta State Liaison Committee for the regional Games.

He commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Games’ consultants, Dunamis Icon, for easing the financial pressure on participating states, noting that the gesture underscores a growing spirit of collaboration across the region.

Project Director of Dunamis Icon, Mr. Fred Edore, who inaugurated the seven-member committee, emphasized that the Niger Delta Games were conceived as a grassroots talent-discovery platform.

He reaffirmed that only athletes indigenous to each state will compete for their respective states — a deliberate move to ensure young local athletes receive genuine exposure.

Edore further highlighted that the event is strictly an age-grade competition, featuring athletes under 20, and urged state governments to give full logistical and moral support to their contingents to guarantee a smooth Games experience.

Secretary of the Liaison Committee, Mr. Harrison Ochulor, outlined the committee’s responsibilities, including organizing qualification events across all local government areas, verifying athlete eligibility, and ensuring that only properly qualified participants are registered.

The newly inaugurated Delta State Liaison Committee comprises:

Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori – Chairman

Mr. Francis Egwudiozor – Member

Chief Godwin Adode – Member

Chief Mercy Awana – Member

Mrs. Emily Osakwe – Member

Mr. Jude Agbeyeke – Member

Mr. Harrison Ochulor – Secretary

With preparations intensifying, Delta State says it is fully committed to a transparent, merit-driven process as it positions its young athletes for success at the regional showcase.
