Cyclists representing all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory will begin their quest for gold medals on Tuesday, May 20, 2024, as cycling events get underway at the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged the 2024 Gateway Games, in Abeokuta.
This was revealed by the Technical Director of the Cyclist Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Bashir Mohammed, during a pre-race meeting with technical officials and state coaches held Monday at the Games’ Local Organizing Committee Secretariat.

According to Mohammed, a total of 17 events will be contested over the next nine days. The competition will commence with three events on Tuesday: the Mixed Relay, the 3km Team Pursuit for women, and the 4km Team Pursuit for men. The Mixed Relay is scheduled for the morning session, while the Team Pursuit races will take place later in the evening.
He also urged participating states to complete their affiliation and cyclist licensing fees, emphasizing that no athlete will be allowed to compete without proper clearance.
