“Crossing the Line Is More Important Than Goals” — Eguavoen Targets Victory, Warns Super Falcons Against Underestimating Comoros

Super Falcons interim head coach Austin Eguavoen has declared that securing qualification is more important than the margin of victory as Nigeria prepare to face Comoros in the return leg of their Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie.

Nigeria hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, but Eguavoen insists his players must remain focused, warning that Comoros possess enough quality to make the second encounter difficult.

“Crossing the line is more important now. It doesn’t matter how many we score, though we know goal is power, and we are aware of that,” Eguavoen said.

The former Super Eagles coach revealed that Nigeria would make tactical adjustments after studying their opponents in the opening fixture.

“We will change our tactics a little bit to make it easy for us,” he explained.

Eguavoen cautioned against judging Comoros by their reputation, pointing to the experience of their Europe-based players and their impressive results in the previous qualifying round.

“Mind you, it’s just the name Comoros. Ninety percent of these players play in France, to start with,” he stated.

He also highlighted the team’s emphatic 30-0 aggregate victory in the previous round, describing the scoreline as evidence that Comoros should not be underestimated.

“Thirty-nil, that’s a scary result. Seventeen and then thirteen, so something to worry about,” Eguavoen admitted.

Despite those concerns, the coach believes Nigeria are better prepared after gaining firsthand knowledge of their opponents.

“First game is gone, two-nil to our advantage, so they’ve watched us, we’ve also watched them,” he said.

Eguavoen acknowledged that the return leg could present fresh challenges but remained confident that his team could find a way to secure the required result.

“We might expect a difficult game, but we’ll try to see how we can make it easy for ourselves,” he concluded.

With a two-goal advantage, Eguavoen’s priority is clear: respect Comoros, adjust the game plan and ensure the Super Falcons advance to the next qualifying round.
