COVID-19: This is the time to show support to our Journalists – Amunike

Former Africa footballer of the year and current on the payroll of El- Makassa of Egypt, Emmanuel Amunike has rained praises on journalist for their relentless efforts in this era of pandemic.

He accompanied these praises and good words with material remuneration to the pen magicians, claiming that this is the time the industry needs support.

He said that the journalists, despite health risk involved by moving around and getting information, still try to keep the populace abreast of happenings in and around Nigeria.

“I am pleased to do what I have done. Journalists have really done so much at this critical time that Corona virus has affected the human race. The pen profession is exposed while carrying out their jobs.” Amunike says.

Journalists across Nigeria has hailed Amunike for his philanthropic effort towards journalists.

Amunike continued,”They need the support of well meaning Nigerians in order to disseminate accurate information to the general public. I have always seen journalists as partners in progress right from my playing days.”

The former U 17 gaffer concluded by expressing hope that the pandemic will pass away and everything will be normalised soon, he went further to say “I pray for the safety of Nigerians as a whole. Sooner or later, the pandemic will be a thing of the past”.

The former Barcelona winger on 23 December 2008, took on training duties for some teams in Nigeria, after completing two years of training courses in Europe . Amunike coached the Nigeria national U17 football team to win the World Cup in 2015. On 6 August 2018, he was appointed as the coach of the Tanzania national football team .

He managed to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations but he resigned from training the team after losing all three games. It was Tanzania’s first time of qualification.
