COAS Spikers’ Coach Elishama Elam Charges Players Against Underrating Rival Teams In Volleyball Premier League

The head coach of Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Spikers, Elishama Elam has charged his players to guard against any tendency of underrating their opponents in the ongoing Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League.

Sports247 reports that, as the competition gets hotter in Abuja, Elam admitted that the matches are bound to become tougher, but reasoned that his players will stay focused in order to keep their title ambition alive.

Elam spoke against the backdrop of another round of matches, as his team proved their championship-winning status alongside the equally imposing presence of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) among leading contenders in both categories.

In the men’s class, COAS Spikers, who got a 3-1 victory over Kano Pillars, remain in contention, despite stiff challenges from Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Navy’s CNS Spikers and NSCDC.

However, Nigeria Customs Service are leading in the men’s competition, having recorded victories over NSCDC, Nigeria Police Force, Defence Spikers, Nigeria Correctional Service, Sunshine Spikers and Ajase Ipo without suffering a defeat.

In the female classification, Nigeria Customs Service, COAS Spikers, NSCDC and Benue Queens are showing great potentials, but Anambra Queens continued their impressive resurgence with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Life Camp VC.

The result built on previous wins against Excelsior VC and Benue Queens, to further strengthen their position among the leading teams, while one of the most entertaining contests saw NSCDC edge VIP & Partners 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

During the day’s main attraction, COAS Spikers defeated their most-fearsome eternal rivals, CNS Spikers 3-1, thereby extending their recent dominance over the naval squad and strengthened their title ambitions, much to the delight of Elam.

While speaking after the victory, the highly resourceful volleyball tactician praised the determination of his players and asserted that their resilience proved decisive in a contest between two teams with a deep understanding of each other’s strengths.

The smooth-talking coach also acknowledged COAS’ recent success against CNS, having defeated them in both the Super Cup and the opening phase of the league, but stressed that their rivals remain a formidable side.

“We have taken that dominance over them, but we cannot underrate them. The players were told to put in their very best and I am glad they won the game. They gave their best and were resilient to earn the win,” Elam recounted.
