City FC Abuja President Rallies Team After Crucial Victory, Urges Focus Ahead of NLO Playoff Showdown

City FC Abuja president, Mr. Chidi Okonkwo, has urged his team to maintain their focus and momentum following a commanding 2-0 win over Camp Pro FC in the ongoing 2024/2025 New Year Mega Lottery Nationwide League One (NLO) promotion playoffs.

The fixture, held at the iconic Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, marked another important step in the club’s quest for promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Speaking to the players and coaching crew at the Prestige Hotel shortly after the match, Okonkwo commended the team’s performance but warned against complacency.

“This is just one step on the journey,” he said. “We must not lose focus now. Every game from here is a final, and we must treat it that way.”

With another decisive match against Family Worship Center FC looming, the City FC Abuja president emphasized the need for discipline, unity, and injury prevention. He charged the coaching staff to prioritize player welfare and instill tactical discipline ahead of the next showdown.

Drawing from personal experience, Okonkwo shared a cautionary tale from his playing days, underlining how one moment of carelessness once cost his team dearly. “Respect your coaches, listen, and be guided,” he urged, reinforcing the values of teamwork and commitment.

In a move to strengthen leadership within the squad, Okonkwo reaffirmed Johnathan Habbakuk as team captain, with Obinna Awara serving as his deputy. Habbakuk, speaking on behalf of the team, expressed gratitude for the president’s support and pledged that the players would fight hard to secure a spot in the NNL.

With their winning streak intact and morale high, City FC Abuja is emerging as one of the standout teams of the playoffs. As they prepare to face their next opponents, the message is clear — the journey is far from over, and the dream of promotion burns brighter than ever.
