Chukwumerije: National Sports Festival Helps Taekwondo Talents

In contrast with critical comments trailing the proliferation of national and international established stars at this year’s National Sports Festival in Abuja, the technical director of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Chika Chukwumerije says they are using it to harness their talents.

Sports247.ng can report that Chukwumerije is happy with the impact taekwondo is making at the Abuja Games, as he insists the federation is using it to expose future world beaters for the country.

Chukwumerije said the NTF is looking ahead, well beyond Abuja 2019, as they are seeing the discovery of young athletes at the festival.

Though the Beijing 2008 Olympoics bronze medalist admitted that the young athletes are facing some well-exposed stars at the 19th NSF, Chukwuemerije said it is heartwarming to see the kids defeat their seniors.

Chukwumerije described the development as very promising for Nigeria in the sports of taekwondo, as he believes many marks for the future are being enacted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He added: ”With the calibre of young athletes being discovered, Nigeria will be one of the countries to look for in continental and international competitions.

”Their performance also shows that our ranking is good and that we are not doing badly in training.”
