Chukwuma Signals Rising Form with Impressive Fourth-Place Finish at Prefontaine Classic

Nigerian sprint sensation Rosemary Chukwuma sent a strong message to her rivals with a solid performance in the women’s 100m invitational at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic, clocking an impressive 11.09 seconds to finish fourth.

Though she narrowly missed out on a podium finish, Chukwuma held her own in a star-studded field that included some of the fastest women in the world. American sprinter Jacious Sears stole the show with a season’s best of 10.85s to claim victory, followed closely by Aleia Hobbs (10.90s) and Thelma Davies (10.96s).

Chukwuma’s time not only highlights her consistency this season but also underscores her readiness to compete at the highest level ahead of upcoming international championships and including the African Games.

The 22-year-old’s performance is a boost for Nigeria’s sprinting hopes, as she continues to show growth and maturity on the global stage. With her current form, Chukwuma is quickly cementing her status as one of Africa’s top sprinting prospects.

Athletics observers believe that with continued development and international exposure, Chukwuma could soon break into the sub-11 second club—a milestone that would place her among the world’s elite sprinters.
