As a debate rages over the future of Eric Sekou Chelle as Super Eagles’ coach, the team’s assistant captain to the recent Africa Cup of Nations, Victor Osimhen says he believes the gaffer can do great things if allowed to stay on for 10 years.

Sports247 reports that Osimhen is banking on Chelle’s heroics that helped Nigeria win third place at AFCON 2025 and reckoned that the Franco-Malian tactician can achieve more if he is given enough time in the saddle.
The Galatasaray of Turkey striker equally praised the players’ efforts during the competition in Morocco and noted that Nigeria still has more young talents coming up.
“There’s really more to come, and I’m happy to be one of the leaders. The Super Eagles really have more in store for themselves and their fans.
“With the kind of players that we currently have, plus those who are still going to come and join us, we will have a better Super Eagles.
“I think we’ve got a bunch of talent already and we still have many new players coming up from all around the world,” Osimhen projected.
He then took a look at the qualities Chelle has in terms of tactical acumen and man management skills, all of which he believes make him Nigeria’s ideal coach for long-term success.
Osimhen revealed, “The coach is not over demanding. So, every player is ready to give the best for him. He’s also a very amazing person, and I like him a lot.
“I like his mentality also. He pushes us a lot in training and during the game. Outside the pitch, he embraces us and laughs with us.
“He is friendly with the players and his coaching staff. In three, four, or even ten years, we will see his greatness and, of course, we will achieve more with that.”
