Channels U17 Classics 100m Winner Adores Usain Bolt

Winner of the boys’ race in the 2018 Channels U-17 Track and Field Classics, Chiemeka Ogbogu has disclosed that he has a dream to be like Jamaican legend, Usain Bolt.

 

 

Ogbogu added that, no only does he want to be like Bolt, he believes he has what it takes to surpass records achieved by the three-time Olympic Games sprints double gold medalist.

Sports247.ng can report that Ogbogu made his declaration at the end of the events, in which Oreyo Senior Grammar School emerged overall winners of the maiden edition at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

A total number of 52 schools, with over 1,000 students, participated in the two-day classics that had competitions in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 400m hurdles, Long jump, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay.

Oreyo Senior Grammar School won four gold and one bronze, while Federal Government College Ijanikin placed second with three gold, one silver and one bronze.

Kingsfield took third with two gold and two silver, Tindip College got fourth with two gold; while Green Spring College, St. Gregory’s College, Homat Comprehensive, Lagos African Church, Babington Macaulay and State Senior High school were 5th to 10nth.

In the boys’ 100m, Ogbogu from St. Gregory’s clinched gold in 11.8 secs and Benjamin Oshiaji of St Finbarrs took silver in 11.9 secs while Ige Ekene Nwankwo of Babington Macaulay got bronze in 12.2 secs.

In the 100m girls, Alimot Alowonle of Tindip College won gold in 12.8 secs, Blessing Inavwhe of Anthony Village silver in 13.4 and Feyisara Odukoya of Green Springs third in 13.6 secs.

In the 200m event, Alowonle Alimot of Tindip College took gold in 26.2 secs, Blessing Inavwhe of Anthony Village won silver in 27.6 secs while Kayinsola lawal of Homat Group settled for bronze in 28.2 secs.

In the male event, Fatola Adedoyin of Oreyo Senior Grammar School won gold in 23.2 secs, Kabiru Mohammed of State Senior High in 23.4 silver and Benjamin Oshiaji of St. Finbarr’s College bronze in 23.6s.

Female sprints’ double champion, Alimot Alowonle was awarded best athlete, Zainab Wahab, who won gold in 800m and second in 400m, was rated second, while Daara Goodluck of Green Springs College, who got gold in long jump plus bronze in 4x400m and 400m, was third.

Fatola Adedoyin of Oreyo Senior Grammar School was voted best male athlete for his double in the 400m and 200m, while Ogbogu was second and Matthew Ogon, who won the 800m, emerged third.

Afterwards, Ogbogu said he intends to become a star athlete in the nearest future and make waves like Bolt.
Ogbogu added: “I feel happy winning my second official competition outside my school.

“The first one I finished second and I told myself that I want to run faster than the other boys.

“I have been running since I was in primary school and I hope to continue and be like Usain Bolt in the future.”
