Afelokhai Aims To Justify National Team Spot

Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai has declared that he aims to put up his best in training with the Super Eagles, in order to justify his late call-up to the Nigerian national team.

Although it took an injury copped by Eagles’ first choice in goal, Elche of Spain youngster, Francis Odinaka Uzoho, to get Afelokhai an invite, the former Kano Pillars shot-stopper told sports247.ng he is fired up.

Afelokhai, who was among the early bird’s to report to camp, stressed that he is eager to show that his call up was well deserved.

Afelokhai stated further ahead of Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa that he will not let the moment pass him by, and will not rule himself out of a starting spot in Jo’Burg.

Back in the Eagles for the first time since 2013, Afelokhai said he is fired up for the battle ahead, but also declared that he is looking beyond the upcoming games against South Africa and Uganda.

Afelokhai declared: “The national team is the dream of any Nigerian footballer and my case is not different.

“My immediate aim is to make a mark in the team to be involved in future games not just these games.

“Hopefully it will be good enough for me to make my debut in one of the games.”
