Carpenters do bricklayers job in Nigeria sports industry – Obisanya

Former National table tennis coach Babatunde Obisanya has raised alarm on how sports, Particularly tennis is going down the drain because of incompetence in some of the offices, Sports247 gathered. Sports before now use to be a national priority but in recent times, it has been a shadow of itself.

Answering questions on the FUBS WhatsApp group, he was asked on how to revive the game again and he said. “to be brief anything short of School Sports would amount to nil. For example, during the regional government era, sports was a culture in schools and each school then was having sports instructors who exposed students to different sporting activities and later identified and monitor students to various competitions at the Regional level. In short, taking sports to schools is very key in this development.”

Obisanya also went further to elaborate on how to put the right people in the right places to achieve the result in sports. “During the time I was the National Coach, I took a queue behind my then Chairman Dr Efunkoya who ensured and also insisted that table tennis players must have the cognitive development to have a good skill development in order to have a better understanding of the game you are involved in.”

He even went to the extent of sending some of our young players than to the wife’s schools at New Era S/l and Aunty Ayo and even provided free accommodation for some. In recent past, things continue to go bad as carpenters are called upon to do Bricklayer’s job in sports generally.

Also, there is a need for us to know that our children from age 2/3 should be exposed to different sporting activities in order to stimulate their interests early enough.” he concluded.
