Fulham of England defender Calvin Bassey’s contract situation at Craven Cottage has caught the attention of Italy’s Inter Milan, whose top shots are reportedly thinking of making a move for the rock-solid centre-back in the winter transfer window.
Sports247 gathered that the Nerazzurri are encouraged by the fact that Bassey’s ongoing deal with Fulham is set to expire at the end of this season and the Cottagers might like to sell him in January to avoid losing him for free.
However, with Bassey having been recently granted the London-based English Premier League’s club’s captain’s band, The Cottagers’ top echelon are not ready to let him go so easily, hence their move to open talks with the Super Eagles’ star.
Consequently, the crew at Fulham has already set in motion a formal process to commence discussions over a likely contract extension with Bassey before the end of this year.
This means Inter Milan might not hook him or they would have to cough out a lot of money if they are to get Bassey in January, as Fulham want to tie him down to a new long-term deal that will extend into the summer of 2028.
A report by Tribal Football added, “Bassey joined the Premier League side from Ajax in July 2023, as part of a four-year agreement, and he’s since developed into a key player under Marco Silva and now with Alvaro Arbeloa.
“The 26-year-old defender won Fulham’s Player of the Season award in 2024/25 and his starting place remains unchanged, despite a poor opening to life in West London for Arbeloa.
“Negotiations are expected to begin after the September international break, as Fulham want an answer before the end of December, with Inter Milan leading the charge for the ex-Rangers man if he pushes for an exit.”
