The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that African football greats Alex Song and Chris Katongo will take centre stage during the 2025/26 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage draws, set to be held on Monday in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The continental football governing body described the duo as “two legends, two leaders representing Central and Southern Africa at the big stage,” underscoring their enduring impact on African football both on and off the pitch.

Song, a former Cameroon international who starred for Arsenal and Barcelona, earned acclaim for his commanding midfield presence and represented the Indomitable Lions at multiple Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cups.
Katongo, meanwhile, etched his name into African football history by captaining Zambia to their unforgettable 2012 AFCON triumph, a victory that united the nation and elevated his status as one of Zambia’s most celebrated football icons.
The upcoming draw will officially set the stage for the group phase of Africa’s elite club competitions, determining the paths for teams vying for continental supremacy.
This season’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup campaigns have already promised intense rivalries, with powerhouse clubs and emerging challengers all eyeing continental glory.
By involving Song and Katongo, CAF continues its tradition of celebrating the legends who helped shape African football’s rich legacy while connecting past greatness with the continent’s vibrant present.
