‘CAF Must Be Clear!’ Falode Demands Transparency Over WAFCON Host

Member of the FIFA Media and Communications Committee and former chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Falode, has urged the Confederation of African Football to provide greater clarity regarding the hosting arrangements for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following its postponement.

CAF recently confirmed that the tournament, originally scheduled earlier in the year, would now be played between July 25 and August 16, 2026 after discussions with stakeholders including FIFA.

However, Falode noted that CAF’s statement did not clearly confirm whether Morocco would still host the competition despite the new dates.

“CAF needs to be more transparent in how it communicates with member nations,” Falode said.

According to her, the lack of clarity surrounding the hosting rights creates uncertainty for participating countries trying to adjust their preparation schedules.

“Teams need clear information so they can properly readjust their calendars,” she added.

Falode explained that national federations rely heavily on accurate information from CAF to plan training camps, logistics and player availability.

“When details are not clearly communicated, it becomes difficult for teams to plan effectively,” she noted.

The Nigerian football administrator stressed that continental competitions require careful planning and clear communication to avoid confusion among stakeholders.

“CAF must ensure that important decisions like this are communicated clearly and on time,” she said.

Falode added that providing clarity will help member associations, players and clubs better manage their commitments ahead of the tournament.

“Transparency will help everyone involved prepare properly for the competition,” she concluded.

The WAFCON remains Africa’s premier women’s football tournament and will feature top national teams including the Nigeria women’s national football team, who are among the favourites to challenge for the title.
