CAF CL: Lobi can win the Champions League just like Enyimba did

Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars football club of Makurdi and veteran football administrator, Chief Mike Idoko has stated that the club is ready to put everything in place in other to ensure that the team will be fortified haven booked a place in the CAF Champions’ league group stage.

 

 

Lobi Stars defeated Gor Mahia of Kenya in the CAF Champions league first round reverse fixture 2 – 0 to take the game to 3 – 3 on aggregate but were able to sail through thanks to the away goal rule as they had lost the first leg 3 – 1 In Kenya in a performance that was referred to as extremely shambolic by respected Kenyan Sport Journalist Mike Okinyi.

 

The draws for the CAF Champions League group stage is billed to take place on the 28th of December. Lobi Stars based on its CAF ranking has been seeded in pot 4 alongside Simba of Tanzania, Saora of Algeria and Isamily of Egypt and might be pitched against the likes of TP Mazembe, Mamelodi Sundowns or ASEC Mimosa.

 

 

Idoko while speaking to Sports247.ng, noted that the group stages will be tough, but has assured that they will do the politicking even as he believes that they have what it takes to do an Enyimba season. “Now that we are in the group stage it is definitely going to be tougher as you can see, the teams in the last 16 are some of the best in Africa.

 

 

Our plan is to do our bit on and off the pitch. Enyimba won the league back to back in 2003 and 2004 and I’m sure we can do the same. I as a person have been here before with Sunshine Stars some years back and the knowledge I got then will be very valuable now.”

 

 

Idoko has also promised that more players will be registered into the team ahead of the group stage including former Kwara United and Enyimba midfielder Dare Ojo.
