The Confederation of African Football(CAF) has called off its Interclubs Quarter-Finals Preparation Course, originally scheduled to hold in Cairo from March 4–8, 2026.
In a brief notice to stakeholders, the continental football body cited visa processing delays and flight ticket complications as the primary reasons for the cancellation. The logistical challenges reportedly made it impossible to guarantee full attendance from participants drawn across multiple African member associations — a requirement for the high-level technical program.

The course was intended to prepare match officials and operational personnel ahead of the decisive quarter-final stage of CAF’s interclub competitions. Such workshops are typically held in Cairo, home to CAF’s headquarters, and serve as strategic platforms for technical briefings and regulatory updates.
However, the latest disruption underscores persistent travel and administrative obstacles that continue to affect cross-border sporting events in Africa. Visa bottlenecks and limited flight connectivity have frequently posed challenges for continental programs requiring physical attendance.
It remains unclear whether the course will be rescheduled or replaced with an alternative format, such as a virtual session. CAF has not provided additional details on next steps, but attention now shifts to how the federation will deliver essential briefings and operational guidance to match officials and competition staff ahead of the quarter-finals.
With the knockout phase of the interclub season approaching, stakeholders emphasise the importance of ensuring technical preparedness despite logistical setbacks. Alternative training models and digital engagements may emerge as practical solutions to bridge the gap created by the cancellation.
