Bursaspor’s Vision Won Me Over’ — Iheanacho Reveals Why He Chose Turkish Second Division Club

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has explained that Bursaspor’s ambitious sporting project was the decisive factor behind his move to the Turkish club, insisting he is determined to help the former champions regain their place in the Süper Lig.

The Nigerian international completed his switch to the historic Turkish side this summer, ending weeks of speculation about his future after attracting interest from several clubs across Europe and the Middle East.

Speaking in his first interview as a Bursaspor player, Iheanacho said the club’s vision for the future aligned perfectly with his own ambitions, making the decision to join an easy one despite the team’s current status outside Turkey’s top flight.

“The project here is what convinced me. The ambition of the club matches mine, and I’m excited to be part of what Bursaspor is trying to build,” Iheanacho said.

The 29-year-old added that his immediate objective is to help return the Green Crocodiles to the Turkish top division, where the club spent many years competing before financial and sporting difficulties led to their decline.

«My target is to help the club gain promotion back to the Süper Lig. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to the team’s success,” he added.

Bursaspor remain one of Turkey’s most historic clubs, famously winning the 2009/10 Süper Lig title to break the traditional dominance of Istanbul’s biggest clubs. In recent years, however, the former champions have endured a turbulent period marked by financial challenges and successive relegations.

The arrival of a player with Iheanacho’s pedigree is viewed as a major statement of intent as the club seeks to restore its status in Turkish football.

Having enjoyed spells with Manchester City, Leicester City and Sevilla, Iheanacho brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, including UEFA Champions League, Europa League and international football with Nigeria.

His signing is expected to provide both leadership and goals for a Bursaspor side eager to mount a serious promotion challenge this season.

For the Super Eagles striker, the move represents more than just a fresh start—it is an opportunity to become a central figure in one of Turkish football’s most ambitious rebuilding projects.

If Iheanacho can deliver the goals that propelled him to success in England and Spain, Bursaspor’s dream of returning to the Süper Lig could become a reality sooner rather than later.
