Arsenal’s Nigerian-born duo of Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke were at the centre of match highlights that revealed their missed chances during the Gunners’ victory away to SSC Napoli of Italy in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Sports247 reports that Saka and Madueke joined a handful of their teammates in failing to convert several sitting chances during the encounter that marked the beginning of Arsenal’s UCL campaign this season.
However, despite Saka and Madueke failing to convert their chances during the game away to Victor Osimhen’s former club, Arsenal still went on to win the encounter 1-0, as the English Premier League champions kept up their glorious form.
Saka came close twice while Madueke missed late on during the tight encounter in Naples, but it was Arsenal’s captain, Martin Ødegaard who eventually notched the winning goal, as the Norway star slotted home a volley from near the box to break the deadlock.
While another Nigrian-born player, Eberechi Eze put up a sterling performance for the London-based side and even came close to getting an assist, it was Ødegaard who eventually made all the difference, as he struck in the 75th minute with his fourth goal in five games.
A report by UK’s Mirror revealed, “Bukayo Saka had a golden opportunity to nudge Arsenal into a lead they deserved on the stroke of half-time after being slipped in on goal by the impressive Martin Odegaard. The England winger blazed over the bar, though, from inside the penalty area.
“It was Piero Hincapie’s turn to miss a sitter minutes after the restart after more fine work from Odegaard and Ben White, who flicked the ball to Arsenal’s left-back at the far post, with the stretching Ecuador international only able to balloon the ball into orbit from a couple of yards out.
“With time running out, it was Odegaard who dispatched a fine first-time effort from the edge of the box to break the deadlock. Noni Madueke and Christos Tzolis could have added a second late on, but their failure was not punished, as the game finished 1-0.”
